A brutal acid attack at the age of 12 changed her life forever. With deep scars on her body and immense pain in her heart, she refused to give up even after a 6-year battle in the hospital and 36 surgeries. Poverty and social stigma were her constant companions, yet she never abandoned the path of education and music. She used to walk to BHU (Banaras Hindu University) to study, eventually earning her PhD from there. Following that, she spent 30 years teaching music at the same university, mentoring countless students. In recognition of this extraordinary courage, perseverance, and creativity, she was honored with the Padma Shri award in 2026. Her story is not just one of struggle, but of inspiration. She has proven that scars can never stop a dream.
